The Commodification of Me (& You)

Being paid for creativity is the ultimate form of irony. You're (attempting) to provide originality - things that by definition, do not exist yet and thus have no value - and exchange them for material gain. Personal brands are the highest form of being paid for creativity. We turn ourselves - the most original thing we have - into a commodity, a vehicle through which we can carve a niche into the market and extract some hard earned coin from our individuality. This article is by no means educational. It's not even likely to be particularly sensible. This article is my thoughts on the phenomenon of personal branding and the juxtaposition between being creative and making money. As someone that (currently) makes almost no money from my creativity, I have some emotions to get out of my system. Let's get into it.
